Advice
Right care, first time
This video explains why you don’t always need to see the GP.
General practice is facing unprecedented pressure. Demand is exceeding capacity, patients are facing longer delays and abuse in practice is rising as a result.

We are now offering an improved appointment system
- All new and ongoing health problems should go through our new online Klinik system
- Patients who do not have access to the internet can still phone our reception team. Our Care Navigators will ask a series of questions to take the triage information over the phone and enter this onto Klinik on the patients behalf.
How this works
- Medical requests are triaged by our GP lead ‘Klinik hub’ on the same day, and you will be contacted with the most appropriate response within three working days.
- You may be offered a same day telephone or face to face appointment with a GP or other health professional, a future appointment in the next few weeks, or referral to a Clinical Pharmacist depending on which is most appropriate.
- Where possible, we will try to send you an SMS with a link enabling you to book your appointment at a time convenient to you. However, if you need to be seen face to face on the same day we will phone you to arrange your appointment.
- You can phone us to book Nurse and Health Care Assistant appointments (eg blood tests, dressings, vaccinations/injections) up to four weeks in advance.
- We try to make sure you see the doctor of your choice but if they are not available we may ask you to see or speak to another clinician.
Working within our current staffing capacity we are doing our best to ensure that you have access to additional appointments outside of normal opening hours. As a result, you may be offered an early morning or evening appointment. If this is something you would prefer, please put this on your Klinik submission, or ask about availability when booking an appointment.
On-call doctor
An on-call doctor works in our Klinik hub each day to manage urgent problems. Please note, our reception team are no longer able to book appointments directly as all medical queries should go through our Klinik system for triage. Patients who do not have access to the internet can still phone our reception team. Our Care Navigators will ask a series of questions to take the triage information over the phone and enter this onto Klinik on the patients behalf.
Paraprofessionals
In a number of cases, you may be offered an appointment with a Practice Nurse, Paramedic, Physiotherapist, Mental Health Nurse or Pharmacist. Paraprofessionals are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly.
Home visits
Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:30am.
You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls.
You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
Sickness certificates (fit notes)
You must give your employer a doctor's 'fit note' (sometimes called a 'sick note') if you've been ill for more than 7 days in a row and have taken sick leave. This includes non-working days, such as weekends and bank holidays.
Request test results
You usually don't need to book an appointment to get your test results.
Travel vaccinations

Continuity of care
Following feedback from patients about difficulties seeing their usual GP, we are making changes to improve continuity of care.
We’re now aiming to book routine appointments with your registered GP wherever possible. This may sometimes mean a slightly longer wait, but it helps your GP get to know you and your health better over time.
If your registered GP has a longer backlog than usual, you may be offered a routine appointment with someone in their microteam, a small group of GPs who share care of a smaller patient group.
If you regularly see a different GP than the one you're registered with, please let us know so we can update your records.
Please note: we will only make this change once.
Urgent and specialist appointments remain unchanged. You will still see
- Paramedics: for same day and urgent issues
- Pharmacists: for medication queries and reviews
- Physiotherapists: for muscle and joint (MSK) problems
- Mental health nurse: for mental health support
Why continuity matters:
- Less time repeating your history and a more satisfying experience
- More efficient care with fewer A&E visits and hospital admissions
- Stronger trust in your GP, improving your health outcomes and care quality
Microteams
- Dr Rebecca Fowler
- Dr James Latchford
- Dr Jessica Watson
- Dr Harriet Delap
- Dr Tasmin Patel
- Dr Sam Davies

Life threatening
Call 999 or go to A&E now if:
- you or someone you know needs immediate help
- you have seriously harmed yourself - for example, by taking a drug overdose
A mental health emergency should be taken as seriously as a medical emergency.
Urgent but not life threatening
Visit an urgent care centre if:
- You have an urgent medical issue requiring on the day attention
Non-urgent
Use NHS 111 if:
- You need help now, but it's not an emergency
There will be someone to provide you with advice and to direct you to a clinician if it is necessary.
